Pen Pals

This last month we started a Pen Pal unit with a 3rd grade class in Eagle Mountain, Utah. Mrs. Nelson's class has 27 students. Both classes are very excited to have pen pals and are seeing writing in a new light. It is fun for the students to see writing being a worth while thing.

Along with learning about letters, the students are working on improving their handwriting, and using proper punctuation.

The students in both classes have promised not to exchange addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. At the end of the school year if the students are still writing, parents will be allowed to change that if they would like.

{Names for Valentines Party}

We have 25 students in our class. Students are allowed to write the names in cursive if they would like. We will be passing out the valentines in the afternoon on February 12th.

New Students in room 223

We were lucky enough to get 2 new students in our class this past month. Within 2 days of each other Alexia and Nicole B. moved into our class.

Alexia moved to Vineyard from Provo.

Nicole B. moved here from Texas.

We are excited to have both of them in our class and hope they feel welcome.

{Christmas Party}

Our Christmas Party was a huge success! The students had a pretty lax day. The school watched "The Polar Express" in the morning in the gym. They came back a few minutes early because the power went out in the school. We rearranged our desks, with only the light coming in from the windows. Played a quick game of SPARKLE, to review our math facts and went to lunch. After lunch the students had PE and computers. And our party started shortly after that. It was a nice and relaxing day before Christmas Break. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers! We had fun crafts, stories, games and treats!

{Fractions}

We are beginning our Fraction unit. We will be talking about halves, thirds, fourths, and comparing fractions. This week we are memorizing the names of the parts of fractions. To begin our unit the students were put in groups and they made posters showing what they know. They presented what they did after. It was a really fun activity, and the kids learned a lot.
