{Karate Respect Lesson}
On Friday we had a special visitor from Bobby Lawrence Karate School. Te in our class was excited to see his uncle there, who taught us some important things. We talked about learning to focus. Focusing at home, school, and during sports. We talked about respect and learned a few karate moves. Here are a few pictures from the assembly.
{Heat and Light- UV Beads}
This week we did an experiment with UV Beads. All of the students were given 6 beads to put on a piece of string which we made into bracelets. We made predictions based on what we thought would happen to a bead if we took it into the sun. It was exciting to go outside on a sunny day and see the beads change to 6 different colors.

{Next Week Reminders!}
Throughout the week please send in your BOXTOPS. A easy way to gather them is to ask your relatives if they can look through their pantry and cut them out for you. We have collected over 200 so far, and hopefully we can continue to bring more in each day.
On Thursday October 1st:
September Reading Calendars will be due. Please send those to school on Thursday or on Friday with your child's homework folders.
Also due on the 1st is your September book report. I've already received a few, please keep them coming!
Friday October 2nd:
Sally Foster Cookie Dough fundraiser money needs to be turned in. All money needs to come in that day. The cookie dough will be delivered to the school around Nov. 5th, and then distributed to the students.
Thank you so much for all of your help and support! This year has been off to a great start!

{Fall is in the Air}
{Spirit Day Fridays}
Double Dose
On Friday I sent home a few notes for double dosing. Students needing extra help with number sense will be getting that help this following week. They will be pulled out for a few minutes during the school day, and have the option of going during the small group time. They can go to Mr. Eagers class during the hour they are NOT in our class. If you can make it work out, please have your child go during the small group time. It will be of great help, and it is an awesome program we have. If you have any questions, please let me know.

{Sentence Review Game}
{Light and Paper Experiment}
Last week we each took 2 pieces of construction paper. We cut out shapes and designs from one and glued them onto the other paper. I put them in the window, and then we made predictions.
"The paper will get tan, like our skin!"
"The paper will melt."
"The paper will turn blackish/brown."
"The paper will change colors."
On Monday we took the papers out of the window and were suprised to see that the paper had faded. When we peeled off the pieces we had glued on, we found that it was the original color underneath. It was pretty exciting!

Patriot Day
Today we started out our day with an assembly. We were able to see our school flag retired. It was an awesome experience and the flag was presented to Mrs. Alhstrom. She has been teaching at Vineyard for over 30 years.
It was a very neat experience and it was followed by President Obama's speech. He talked about staying in school, being responsible for ourselves, and working hard. It was a great speech to help all the students be more motivated about the upcoming school year.
We are finishing up our Number Sense unit which includes: Place Value, Rounding, Comparing Numbers, and Number Patterns. We played a game of Jeopardy to review for our test next week.
In the afternoon for art, we used pieces of colored tin foil to cover a picture of the flag. It was a lot of fun, and something new for the class. Hope you enjoy the pictures!
